The No Risk STE laboratory performs tests of degree of protection against penetration of solids and liquids in equipment enclosures (IP code) according to the following technical standard:
- IEC 60529 - Degrees of Protection Provided by Enclosures (IP code).
- Protection against penetration of liquids: grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
- Protection against penetration of solids: grades 1, 2, 3, 4.
The meaning of each IP grade is listed below:
IP1X - Protection against penetration of solid objects larger than 50 mm in diameter and protection against access to dangerous parts with the back of the hand.
IP2X - Protection against penetration of solid objects larger than 12.5 mm in diameter and protection against access to dangerous parts with the finger.
IP3X - Protection against penetration of solid objects larger than 2.5 mm in diameter and protection against access to dangerous parts with a tool.
IP4X - Protection against penetration of solid objects larger than 1 mm in diameter and protection against access to dangerous parts with a wire.
IP5X - Protection against dust penetration and protection against access to dangerous parts with a wire.
IP6X - Total protection against dust penetration and protection against access to dangerous parts with a wire.
IPX1 - Protection against harmful water ingress due to vertical dripping.
IPX2 - Protection against the ingress of harmful water due to dripping to 15º.
IPX3 - Protection against the ingress of harmful water due to spraying
IPX4 - Protection against harmful water ingress due to water splashes.
IPX5 - Protection against harmful ingress of water from water jets.
IPX6 - Protection against harmful water ingress from powerful water jets.
IPX7 - Protection against harmful water ingress due to temporary immersion.
IPX8 - Protection against harmful water ingress due to continuous immersion.
IPX9 - Protection against harmful water ingress due to high pressure and temperature water jets.
